YOUR PRIVACY. YOUR POWER.

Know your online rights.

Understand the next step, find the right contact and stay in control. Jouhatsu’s self-help resources and victim workspace are free. These resources provide general information, not individual legal advice.

Start with safety and support

The practical steps below draw on UNICEF’s cyberbullying guidance, with Jouhatsu’s additional intimate-media handling precautions. UN organisations have not endorsed or partnered with Jouhatsu.

Find a safe supporter

Choose someone you trust or a specialist helpline. You do not have to handle this alone.

Report and limit contact

Use the platform’s official report, mute or block tools where safe. Let a specialist help plan your next step.

Keep a safe, minimal record

For abuse reports, record URLs and dates. UNICEF discusses evidence for bullying; intimate-media cases need extra care. Never download or redistribute sexual material to use Jouhatsu.

Prioritise immediate safety

Contact local police or emergency services if danger is immediate. Jouhatsu does not monitor emergencies.

Rights, remedies and their limits

Human-rights principles apply broadly; complaint powers and data rights depend on local law. Being visible online does not make abuse acceptable, but not every unwanted mention can legally be removed.

EU/EEA GDPR where applicable

Access, correction and erasure

You may have rights to access, correct or erase personal data, restrict processing or object. Erasure has exceptions; it is not a guarantee of deletion everywhere. Consult the competent regulator for your circumstances.

EU Digital Services Act where applicable

Report and challenge platform decisions

Official notice-and-action channels help report illegal content. Relevant platform decisions may have complaint or dispute routes. Availability depends on the service and jurisdiction.

Children deserve safety and support

Seek a trusted supporter or child helpline, use platform reporting tools and consider blocking harassment. Contact local emergency services when there is immediate danger. Use an independent supporter if a guardian may be unsafe.

UN Women’s work also highlights survivor-centred responses and coordination with civil society and justice institutions. This is an institutional principle, not a promise that a UN agency will handle your individual case.

Choose a next step you can manage

  1. Choose a safe device and trusted support where possible.
  2. Note the source URL and date without downloading or forwarding intimate media.
  3. Use the host’s official reporting channel. Request search-result removal separately.
  4. Record the reference and response; consult a qualified professional or regulator where appropriate.
